There has been a rise in nursing vacancies in Lincolnshire’s hospitals, according to new research.
Data from a BBC Freedom of Information request shows that on 1 December 2015 there were 23,443 vacancies across the NHS England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Job vacancies are increasing monthly with 97 vacancies in October 2015, 102 in November 2015 and 108 in December 2015 at Lincoln County Hospital.
Engagement manager of United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust, Anna Richards said: “Advertising for vacancies is done but the supply for nurses just simply isn’t high enough and that is becoming an issue.”
“We recruit many of our nurses from overseas. We went to Poland and Romania in December 2015 to get some nurses and also did a trip to the Philippines in January and got 131 nurses.”
This comes after the 2015 National NHS staff survey at United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust which revealed that just under half of the members of staff would not recommend them to friends or family.
But just over half of Lincolnshire’s NHS staff stated in the survey that if a relative needed treatment, they would be happy with the standard of care provided by the organisation.
This places the trust within the lowest ranking trusts of the country, despite improvement from 45% in 2014.
