LSJ TV: Imps set for pivotal Oxford Clash

Lincoln City are set for one of their most important matches in recent history this weekend, when they face Oxford United in a critical League Two clash.

An alarming run of no wins in nine games, which includes seven defeats, has seen the Imps plummet towards the League Two relegation trap door at an alarming rate.

They currently occupy 21st position in the league, just two points clear of the relegation zone and critically possessing a significantly inferior goal difference in comparison to the teams around them.

A travelling army of over 500 City fans will be making the trip to Oxfordshire, hoping to push the Imps towards safety and prevent the club dropping out of the Football League for the first time since 1987.

Over 350 supporters have already snapped up the offer of free coach travel for Lincoln’s final away match of the season, which has been funded by the club’s directors as they look to reward fans for their loyal support this term.

In the form of Oxford United, Lincoln face a team that has already assured its’ League Two safety for this campaign.

The U’s have enjoyed a profitable return to the Football League, after gaining promotion from the Blue Square Premier last year after a four year absence, and even harboured hopes of securing a play-off spot this time out before fading away in recent weeks.

The Imps once again have doubts over influential winger, Mustapha Carayol, for the visit to the Kassam Stadium, but will be boosted by the news that Adam Watts is likely to return after missing the previous three encounters due to illness.

Jamie Clapham, Clark Keltie, Josh O’Keefe and Drewe Broughton could all be set for re-calls to the starting line-up, after they sat out the 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Cheltenham Town on Easter Monday.

City know that they will be assure League Two safety if they beat Oxford, and Barnet fail to defeat play-off chasing Accrington Stanley. However, if results fail to go their way the Imps could find themselves in the relegation zone with just one game to play.
