An inquest into the death of Flight Lieutenant Sean Cunningham began yesterday (Tuesday) in Lincoln.

Lincolnshire police are investigating what happened on November 8, when Flt Lt Sean Cunningham was ejected from his aircraft while it was still on the ground.

Sean Cunningham was ejected 200 feet into the air and fell to earth when his parachute failed to open. He suffered major injuries and was rushed to Lincoln County Hospital where he later died.

The inquest heard that the pilot had carried out and completed ground safety checks before entering the aircraft.

An investigation into the malfunction of the ejector mechanism is underway and also into why the main parachute failed to open.

Coroner Stuart Fisher has adjourned the inquest until further investigations deliver new evidence. It is thought this may take a few months.
