Match Report: Lincoln City 1 – 1 AFC Telford

Lincoln City made it 3 draws in a row after a 1 – 1 draw at home to AFC Telford.

Both sides started energetically and either side could have been ahead within the first 15 minutes.

On the 11 minute mark Louis Almond had his shot saved by the Bucks goalkeeper Ryan Young which then fell to Tyrone Thompson who blazed a shot over.

On the quarter-hour mark Richard Pacquette went one on one with Young, who again denied City taking the lead, by making a point blank save from the Imp’s striker.

Telford were quick on the counter attack and almost found themselves ahead after a cross by Ryan Valentine struck Josh Gowling  on the back post, which somehow found its way into Joe Anyon’s grateful hands.

The Bucks were starting to gather momentum and on the 24th minute the pressure paid off. Kyle Perry, on loan from City, received the ball inside the area and made space for himself to then blast the ball against the underside of the bar and into the Lincoln net.

AFC Telford’s lead however was short lived, as Alan Power won a foul 25 yards out. Captain John Nutter’s strike took a big deflection off Chris Blackburn and Lincoln were back level through an own goal.

Lincoln had a few chances before the break but they amounted to nothing and the sides went in level at half-time.

The Imp’s came out the same way they had gone in with no changes for either side.

Louis Almond had the first chance of the second half when his 25 yard effort went over the bar.

The Imp’s could have been in the lead soon after when they had a goal by Josh Gowling disallowed for a push by the Lincoln defender.

The Imp’s bad luck continued as they had a clear penalty denied when a long throw by Paul Robson struck the arm of a Telford defender. The referee waved play on much to the annoyance of the City home fans and squad alike.

The game ended 1-1 with Lincoln finishing the stronger of the sides. David Holdsworth will be happy with the teams progression to score and defend well under pressure. The Imp’s are now  undefeated in their last 3 games and will be hoping to carry their good run of form into next week’s away match to 9th place Mansfield Town.
