In the run up to the budget being announced, national statistics regarding unemployment and average earnings throughout the UK have been released.

The statistics offer some good news for both national level and local level as the falling rate is also consistent throughout Lincoln.

The national unemployment figures have dropped by 28,000 with average earnings up by 2.1%. Whereas in Lincoln the yearly drop in people claiming benefits is 18.3%.

Elizabeth Bastable, employer and partnership manager at the Lincoln Job Centre, revealed how the rate was impacted in Lincoln: “In Lincoln specifically, the number of people claiming benefits compared to February 2015 is 495 less, this is a really big difference of 18.3% so it is really encouraging to see the claimant figures down.”

As figures continue to be positive in Lincoln, UK economist, Scott Bowman’s, claims of the UK job recovery being in “full swing” were agreed with by Miss Bastable: “Obviously I can’t predict the future but I’d like to hope so because we are committed to helping everybody regardless of their circumstances.”

“I’d like us to continue in the same way we have been doing  and it would be encouraging to see a similar figure next month as it continues to decrease.”
