Local people may have been disappointed on Saturday as city of Lincoln made no plans to celebrate Bonfire night on November 5th.
Jennie Bowma, Tourist Officer at the Lincoln Visitor Information Centre said even though Bonfire Night falls on a Saturday and is the optimum time for people to access events, the city made no plans for the actual day.
Jennie said: “I always use Christmas day and Halloween as an example, they are celebrated on the day, not the day before or after.”
Traditionally, the annual event is to remind parliament of Guy Fawkes, a terrorist who tried to blow them up almost 400 years ago.
The reason as to why Lincoln did not plan any event for November 5th Jennie believes it could be because of its commercial platform.
“Instead of one day gaining a lot of interest, it is now being spread over different days. It extends a one off event and gives everyone a bite of the cherry.”
Even though Lincoln did not celebrate anything on November 5th, there were some events that happened on Friday the 4th and Saturday the 6th.
