A Lincoln-based camera shop has closed down after over ten years.

London Camera Exchange has closed down its shop on St. Marks and one job has been lost.

The rest of the staff have moved to the store’s other Lincoln branch on Silver Street after the St. Marks store was consolidated into the Silver Street branch on February 2.

Jamie Scott, 28, branch manager of London Camera Exchange on Silver Street, Lincoln, has said that the growth of online shopping “is exceeding everyday, it’s continuously growing and it’s something we’re taking the grasp of as well. We do online for film with second-hand and new equipment.”

The growth of online shopping has been a key contributor to many high street shops closing down both in Lincoln and across the country.

The percentage of total retail sales made online has risen from 2.5% in December 2006 to 20% in December 2018, according to the Office for National Statistics.

This rise in online shopping has caused many local businesses and high street shops to close down, leaving some worried about the future of the high street.

However, Mr Scott was positive about the future of London Camera Exchange as well as other camera shops, saying “I think we’re pretty safe. Mobile phones don’t give the same quality and the same creative options of a DSLR or a mirrorless camera can.”

“We find a lot of people that start out vlogging on YouTube then want to come in for a better, bigger camera.”
