Anyone can come along to see lambs being born. Riseholme College students and staff will be on hand all day to explain what’s happening and answer questions about farming.
Lambing is part of the curriculum for students at Riseholme studying agriculture and animal courses. Students on all courses are given the opportunity to get involved though, taking on tasks such as monitoring the pregnant ewes, recognising the first signs of labour and actually delivering lambs.
Tony Houlden, Livestock manager at Riseholme College farm encourages everyone to attend. “The public have got a chance to come walk round and see the lambs that have been born, and if they’re very lucky there should still be some born on the day.” “We’ve got about 100 sheep left to lamb and there’s a good 150 lambs running with their mothers.”
The event will take place at the sheep unit on Sunday 26th February, between 10.30am and 3.30pm. The event is being held in conjunction with the Riseholme Young Farmers, who will be asking for a £1 donation on entry. All proceeds will go to the Riseholme Young Farmers Club and the Lincolnshire Air Ambulance.
