Unemployment in Lincolnshire has risen by almost seven and a half per cent in January.

Figures released by the government show that their are 16,032 people claiming unemployment benefit in the county compared with 14,844 in December.

In Lincoln the number of people out of work has gone up by almost 200, from 3,058 to 3,242. Unemployment in the city now stands at 5.3 per cent.

Nationally unemployment is now 2.67 million, a rate of 8.4 per cent, the highest total for 16 years.
