Veganuary aims to help people as part of their New Year’s Resolutions become vegan for the month of January. But with January coming to an end, will people be giving up their vegan lifestyles and returning to meat and dairy products?

Veganuary is a registered charity within itself and believes that veganism is one of the most efficient life choices that people can make to improve their health, reduce the suffering of animals and help the environment.

But, has Lincoln adopted the vegan lifestyle?

Rose Perkins who studies Animal Behaviour and Welfare at the University of Lincoln has been vegan for a year and a half, she said: “I think veganuary campaigning is important to spread awareness.”

However, Veganuary is in some ways a fad for January… “If I go out to eat in January there are so many options but it isn’t carried on throughout the year.” said Rose.

Lincoln resident, Lynsey Lion has been vegan for 3 years and took to the lifestyle inĀ  a very similar campaign to Veganuary.

Lynsey said: “When I first transitioned I signed up to a similar 30 day challenge from ‘Viva!’ in which they send you recipes and advice everyday of your journey.”

Many chain restaurants now offer vegan options on their menu, including Zizzi’s, Pizza Express and Handmade Burger Co, which all sit on Brayford Waterfront so it’s no secret that going vegan in Lincoln is accessible for everyone.

Founder of Vegan Events UK, Victoria Bryceson said: “I don’t think there is a ‘wrong’ reason for going vegan. If Veganuary or a New Year’s Resolution gets you excited about veganism, it can be a really positive way to get started.”

Victoria hosts vegan events around the country, if you’re curious on taking the leap or don’t know anything about veganism at all, this may be the perfect place to start.
