Lincoln City have announced that they are parting ways with shirt sponsor, Peregrine, ahead of the launch of their new kit for the 2021/22 season.

The break with the South African holdings firm comes as plans are made for the club to feature five shirt sponsorship partners next season.

The club confirmed the news on their website yesterday with Head of Commercial, Andrew Whitham being quoted saying, “It has been a difficult year for everybody so to have the backing from Peregrine as front of shirt partner has really helped the football club.”

While this may come as a needed commercial boost for the club some football fans on twitter have expressed concerns that it will put unnecessary financial strain on fans.

With the worry being that some fans who want to wear what the team are wearing won’t be able to afford all five variations.

Oh no 😥. Changing shirt sponsor five times in a season destroys all the shirts for me. What do you buy? Most people can’t buy all five. Do you buy it without a sponsor 🤷‍♂️ https://t.co/SHRIQ20Kcd

But, some Lincoln fans are not so concerned. Season ticket holder, Matthew Bettles told LSJ news, “I think it gives the fans an option that they’ve never had before to be able to pick which sponsor they want to have on the shirt.

“Most fans don’t buy a shirt because of the sponsor, they buy it because they support the team.”

According to the club statement fans will be able to pre-order shirts without a sponsor with the chance to add one for free at any time.

In anticipation for the announcement, LSJ News have put together a selection of sponsors – old and new – we’d like to see next season:

1. Having the International Bomber Command Centre up front would great for celebrating local heritage. What's more you can see it from LNER stadium

2. We like this partly for of the old crisp factory on Newark road, but mainly because that Walkers logo looks iconic on football shirts.

3. We'd love to see the local paper back on the Imps' chest. Especially with this classic 90's logo.

4. Though this cheese comes from the South-West. One Cathedral City sponsoring another just makes sense, doesn't it?

5. Amongst other things, University of Lincoln's former logo, Minerva is the Roman Goddess of poetry. City will hope to play like poetry in motion in this strip.

6. In 2003/04 Real Madrid and Lincoln City were both linked by a Siemens sponsorship. A memorable addition to a memorable era for Lincoln.
