Lincoln City added another victory to their three game unbeaten streak thanks to a 3-1 win over Nuneaton Town at Sincil Bank stadium earlier this evening.

From kick off the Imps began to pressure, thanks to strong running from Jake Caprice winning a corner five minutes into the half. However a foul committed by centre back Hamza Bencherif brought the home side’s first attack to a stop.

The Imps continued to create space in attack and it wasn’t long before winger Marcus Marshall whipped in a low cross in the sixth minute that saw Jordan Burrow produce a back heeled flick finish to give Lincoln a 1-0 lead, and also gift Burrow his seventh goal of the season.

Left back Sean Newton continued to make runs down the flank which more often than not placed Nuneaton full back Ben Starosta in vulnerable defensive positions.

Newton’s work continued, forcing Nuneaton goalkeeper Christian Dibble out of his area to punch out a cross in the 15th minute.

Pressing play from Alan Power, Jon Nolan and Ben Tomlinson continued to halt any intentions of attacking the visitors had. Another darting run by Caprice saw him provide the assist to Tomlinson, who finished from a tight angle after getting away from his marker to give City a 2-0 lead.

Before play could resume the visitors made their first substitution, with Gavin Cowan replacing Anthony Charles. The visitors than had one of their first genuine attacking opportunities,  a free kick was curled into the box by Anton Brown, before Paul Farman relieved pressure and punched clear.

Shortly before the half time interval the visitors looked poised to score, Adam Dawson’s cross was spilled by Farman, which left Bencherif to clear dangerously close to his own goal line.

A contest between Adams and Lee Fowler saw Adams go down with an apparent facial injury, the midfielder received attention before re-joining play just before the half time whistle.

The Imps were visibly more relaxed than the visitors in defence, which was demonstrated on the hour mark when Starosta’s header back to Dibble was spilled, leaving Burrow an easy tap in for his second goal, moving Lincoln’s lead to 3-0.

Nuneaton captain Theo Streete was gifted a scoring opportunity after botched Imps defending in the 59th minute, however the skipper’s effort soared over the bar.

Streete’s day went from bad to worse with fifteen minutes left, as last man he brought down Jon Nolan inches outside the box, resulting in him seeing red from referee Ross Joyce. Newton’s free kick then produced a superb save from Dibble.

The visitors managed to savour a consolation goal through substitute Cowan heading a Dawson free kick at the back post of the Lincoln goal in the 90th minute.

Just before full time, Lincoln’s Tom Miller fell to the ground not long after a clash of heads with Nuneaton’s Michael Gash, the Imps defender was able to walk off the pitch with medical staff, which would have undoubtedly relieved new manager Chris Moyses in his first game in charge.

The victory sees the Imps on a four league game unbeaten streak, currently sitting 13th in the table.

Assistant manager Grant Brown said: “We’ve got a good squad of players in there, we’ve got game changers on the bench.”

We can certainly keep climbing up the league.”
