Lincoln City’s manager, Danny Cowley, has hailed the dedication of the Imps fans in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Cowley’s team face Accrington Stanley at Sincil bank this evening in the first knock-out round of the tournament.

Attendances at Lincoln City for Checkatrade Trophy matches have surpassed 3000 on both occasions.

The Imps beat Everton 2-1 in October in front of a record crowd for the competition this season of 3713 and defeated Notts County by the same scoreline in November with 3026 at the game.

Lincoln City froward, Matt Green, has also praised the Imps support, saying that it’s nice to able to give something back to the loyal fans and that they help the team come back from losing positions.

However the Checkatrade Trophy has been met with criticism and even boycotted by many fans across the country.

Supporters were unhappy with the FA’s introduction of Premier League Under-23 sides last year, which has since been revised to Under-21 teams.

Many fans remain skeptical about the competition however Cowley says the Checkatrade Trophy is Lincoln City’s most likely chance of silverware this season.
