White Collar Boxing has surged in popularity with thousands of would-be fighters stepping into the ring for the first time – and Lincoln is part of this revolution.

However, experts say safety concerns cannot be overlooked.

It is documented that up to 23.6 per cent of fighters incur an injury during their boxing fights – a statistic which has implications for those taking part in the Lincoln Fight Night event.

Shawn Burton who is a former multi kickboxing champion ran the eight week training camp for the Lincoln fight night fighters at Lincoln Fight Factory.

He believes that safety in boxing is paramount but also ensures that the fighters know the dangers of the sport beforehand.

He said: “This event is a great opportunity to those that want to get in the ring. The safety of fighters at these events is taken very seriously with medics on stand by, heavier gloves and headgear used and the event organisers ensure the fighter has gone through enough training to get into the ring.”

Jacob Gordon, a participant at the Lincoln Fight night, believes that the event has the boxers’ safety as a priority.

He said: “At the end of the day, everyone knows that boxing is a dangerous sport, we are made aware of the risks but it’s a combat sport, that is expected. We had to go through many safety procedures and I always felt safe during training and on fight night.”
