100 years since women were first granted the vote

It’s 100 years to the day since some women were allowed to vote in the UK.

The suffragette’s movement began in the late nineteenth century and changed British politics forever.

Despite the progress of the past century, recent events, such as the Presidents club scandal and the Harvey Weinstein revelations, highlight the deeply rooted nature of gender inequalities.

The gender pay gap still exists today and there needs to be a fundamental shift in the way society views women.

Head of political science at the University of Lincoln, Professor Jacqui Briggs, says there is more to be done to achieve equality in the workplace.
