£22,719 raised to combat homelessness

Sleep Easy, while sleeping rough

The YMCA partnered with Lincoln Cathedral for the 11th Sleep Easy annual event.

Sleep Easy is as sponsored sleepers charity event, replicating what it feels like to spend a night on the streets.

All available spots were sold out, with over 100 people sleeping out at Lincoln Cathedral from 7pm on Friday until 7am on Saturday 7th March.

The night kicked off with a short prayer for the homeless by the Reverend Canon Sal McDougall, followed by a speech from Caroline Killeavy, Chief Executive of the YMCA.

The sponsored sleepers had nothing more than cardboard and tape for shelter, attempting to replicate real life conditions and some even wishing for rain.

The charity event raised £22,719 for the YMCA and the Nomad Trust, which are the only two shelters services in Lincolnshire. All donations are still welcome.

Local businesses supported the event: Stokes Cafe provided tea and coffee; Running Imp helped with the Rapid relief team; Lincoln Hotel provided breakfast for all the sleepers.

Despite finishing just three days ago, plans have already begun for Sleep easy 2021.
