Appleton hopes fans can “play their part” in Lincoln City’s first home game

The LNER Stadium returns to full capacity for Saturday's match against Fleetwood Town

Michael Appleton hopes that the fans can spur on the Imps in their first home game of the 2021/22 season.

Lincoln City host Fleetwood Town on Saturday in a much-anticipated Sky Bet League 1 clash.

The LNER Stadium will be at full capacity for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.

Michael Appleton said: “I think certain grounds and supporters can give a club and a team an edge and I do think our fans are one of those.

“Hopefully that will be the case and they can play their part in what will be a great occasion after so many months of missing out on full capacity.”

The return of a packed out stadium is not the only good news Lincoln fans have received.

Appleton is still keen on signing more players before the transfer window closes. He said: “At some point over the next five, six or seven days we’re very hopeful of bringing certainly two in and if we can get another one in that would be great.”

Centre-back, Lewis Montsma, picked up a shoulder injury in City’s last outing against Shrewsbury, but the Imps’ medical team are confident that he will be available for tomorrow’s game.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s clash against Fleetwood, Appleton believes that patience is the key for his side to get the three points.

The Imps’ boss said: “They can be really dangerous to play against. If we’re not patient and don’t use the ball wisely, it could be a frustrating day for us.”

Former Lincoln City loanee, Callum Morton, features for Fleetwood tomorrow afternoon. Speaking on Morton, Appleton said: “He picked up the injury which set him back and was a huge disappointment for him.

“Fortunate for Fleetwood and unfortunate for us, I think that we’ll probably see the best of Callum Morton this season.”

New Lincoln signing Lasse Sorensen is eager to get on the pitch and play in front of the Lincoln fans.

Sorensen said: “One of the first things I heard when I came down here is that the stadium is really really good and really gets going.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about it so I can’t wait. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.”
