Burst the bubble with ‘fizz-free’ February

People across the country are being advised to give up fizzy drinks for the month of February.

Run by a campaign called Sugar Smart, ‘fizz-free February’ aims to help people cut down on the amount of sugar they consume,

The Campaign Coordinator for Sugar Smart, Vera Zakharov, says: “It’s about supporting people to do

a challenge, and we’re asking schools and organisations to take part as well.”

According to Sugar Smart, some people can eat as much as 40 teaspoons of sugar every day, which is more than 5 times the recommended daily allowance.

The main focus for the fizzy-drink cut-down is on children, with over 15 per cent under the age of three having dental decay.

Furthermore, the website states that today’s generation of children are predicted to the first to live shorter lives than their parents because of diet and inactivity.
