Derby County secured three points on Saturday at Pride Park after Martyn Waghorn’s strike in the 33rd minute was the difference between the sides.

Despite the low scoreline it was an action packed match for the Rams as there were several chances created for winger Tom Lawrence and even for defender Jayden Bogle.

A disallowed goal for Preston North End was the only time they got the ball in the back of the net as their several chances failed to materialise.

Despite the back and forth chanting between the home and away fans, Derby County had a fondness for one of the oppositions players.

David Nugent, who left Derby in the summer to move to Preston, was making his first appearance at the stadium since his departure.

Speaking after the game, he said: “I’m happy at Preston, they treat me well there but of course I miss this place too.”

As he was leaving Pride Park after the loss, he was met by fans of his old club who were making the most of seeing him again.
