People were out in force in Lincoln High Street on Friday evening, as the Christmas lights were turned on.

The event was organised by the City of Lincoln Council and hosted by BBC Lincolnshire presenters Scott Dalton and Su Whitaker.

There were performances on the main stage by the Salvation Army Band, Ady Lee and Peter Brown.

Hannah Stevens, 19, Lincoln, who was in the crowd watching, said: “The band were impressive and created a buzzing atmosphere.

“I can’t wait to see the lights switched on now.”

The Mayor of Lincoln, Councillor Sue Burke, was on hand to turn on the Christmas lights and was joined by Lincoln’s New Theatre Royal pantomime cast.

Members of the public were out in their hundreds, as they swarmed the High Street in anticipation of the lights switch on.

Sasha Barford, 20, Lincoln, said: “I always look forward to the Christmas lights switch on as it puts me in the festive spirit.”

More Christmas celebrations will be taking place throughout Lincoln in the upcoming month, with Santa and his reindeer expected to make a visit on Thursday.
