First day success as award-winning Lincoln chippy opens again

Lincoln’s renowned Burton Road Chippy opened its doors on Wednesday, welcoming back customers at its new location.

The shop moved its takeaway from 169 Burton Road to 119 Burton Road, after closing its restaurant on September 5 due to Covid-19.

After a long delay in opening their new store, the Chippy is finally open for business once again.

Lesley Graves, owner of Burton Road Chippy takeaway said: “The opening exceeded our expectations. It was so nice to see people and to be operating again.

“Obviously, the plan was to reopen a lot sooner but we had to wait for a gas meter to be fitted.

“It was great to finally get the team back into work and the welcome we got from people was amazing.

“There was relief from our customers, saying they were pleased we were back.

“It was great to see everybody that we haven’t seen for ages and everyone was happy.

“There was a really good atmosphere and we got so many well wishes too. It just warms you inside, it is so great to be back.”

After a successful opening day, the award-winning chippy received lots of praise and support from its customers.

Sue Knight, a regular customer of Burton Road Chippy said: “I’ve been coming here for years because their fish and chips are out of this world.

“It’s amazing to have them back. Once I saw that they were open again, that was it, I was online and ordering.”

Burton Road Chippy was named the second best chippy in the country at the Seafish Fish and Chip Shop of the Year awards in 2017.

To keep in line with Covid-safety, the team have introduced a click and collect service to help its customers order and pay in the safest way.

Whilst walk-ins are still accepted, the store is encouraging its customers to order online if they can.

Ms Graves said: “The click and collect service prevents people from having to queue.

“People can just arrive at their designated time to collect their food. It’s already paid for, so it’s just a case of straight in and straight out.

“We have decided, that whilst we are in the Covid tier that we are in, we will also accept cash from walk-ins.

“If we were to move into tier three, then I’ll have to reconsider that.”

The chippy is also offering delivery via Deliveroo.
