Hundreds of people across the county are growing moustaches and organising events to raise both money and awareness for this year’s Movember.

Organisations, groups and individuals across Lincoln are supporting Movember by raising money and awareness for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s mental health and suicide prevention throughout the month of November.

Lincoln Rugby Football Club started with a fundraising target of £500. Now, only halfway through the month, the 20 players taking part have raised £1,226 and their target has been raised to £1,750.

Lincoln Rugby Club’s director Christopher Barrett said: “We didn’t expect so much support.

“We’re looking at extending the target further if we keep doing well. Hopefully we will raise more at our home game on Saturday.”

The University of Lincoln is also doing its part and set a target of £1,500. Between six sports teams at the university, they have currently raised £2,600. You can visit their Movember network page here.

President of the University of Lincoln’s rugby team Edward Tyers said: “Taking part is a society tradition. The money raised goes to noble causes and it’s something that none of us want to be affected by.”

The Rugby team have raised £1,534 of the £2,600 that has currently been raised by the university.

Individuals in Lincoln are also supporting the cause. Student Harvey Catchpole, 18, set himself a target of £100 for the month but has already raised £207.

Harvey said: “For me, it’s the mental health and suicide prevention. The cancer research is also amazing. However, I feel that mental health is very important and that as men we don’t talk about it anywhere near as much as we should.”
