High Street left surprisingly spotless after Christmas lights switch-on

High street, Lincoln.

High street just a few hours after the main event.

Streets in the centre of Lincoln were left litter-free just hours after the annual Christmas light switch-on took place on the High Street.

The first switch-on took place in St Marks before the crowds moved onto the High Street for the main light-up. The switch was pressed by the Mayor of Lincoln, Councillor Sue Burke.

Other guests included Blue Peter presenter Barney Harwood, CBBC’s Yonko (Chris Johnson) and star of ITV’s The Voice, Zoe Hedge.

The event was hosted by Lincs FM presenter John Marshall.

Crowds of thousands of people who attended the switch-on left promptly afterwards and left the streets of Lincoln lit-up but, as these images taken just two hours later show, clean and tidy.

There were no signs of litter left behind by crowds at the time of the photos being taken and all   stands and equipment were promptly removed.

It wasn’t only the High Street that was lit-up either –  the Santander building and the Central Market Square were also decorated.
