Hitting the ground running in 2019

With each new year bringing resolutions – from giving up cigarettes or starting at the gym -most people are looking to better themselves by following the expression “new year, new me.”

One sport which is taking local communities by storm is running. It’s no wonder that the “running bug” catches on when there are “Couch to 5K” courses popping up with local running clubs encouraging more people to join the revolution.

But this one stop running shop has begun a group of their own.

The Lincolnshire Runner, located on the High Street, offers weekly runs for any type of participant, no matter what their ability – plus they’re free!

Pamela Baxter is a regular with the running group. But her running journey didn’t begin as a 2019 new year resolution it actually started over 9 years ago.

“I started running initially because I liked chocolate and then that’s what kept me going to stop the weight piling on. I never thought I’d be able to run with a club!”

Alongside the Monday night runs, The Lincolnshire Runner is an established running shop which has been trading for over 30 years. Their are trainers, quite literally, pouring out of the wall, making the store a thing of dreams for local athletes.

Customers from the store are encouraged to join in with the weekly evening runs. So far it has attracted a handful of runners and this has created a community feel.

She added: “I love the shop runs on a Monday because I can meet new people who are maybe new to running. Whereas when I go on the club sessions on a Tuesday and Thursday I try to push myself a bit harder. I get a real buzz out of it and that’s why I love Monday’s so much.”

The Lincolnshire Runner is a family business and since 2012 has been run by Keith Iley. He has worked there since he was 14 years old which means his running knowledge is second to none.
