How a Lincoln couple went from NHS pizza heroes to starting their own business

Now operating under a new home

A Lincoln couple open their very own takeaway business – 8 months after making pizzas in their back garden to raise NHS funds.

Matt Barnes and his wife Rachel began making pizzas to raise money for the NHS, totalling over £2,000 in donations and even offering slices for frontline workers.

Sadly, Matt was then made redundant two weeks prior to his wife’s due date but found his love for pizza could be the new adventure for his family.

Weirdoughs Pizza, now operating inside Tap & Spile in Hungate, offers Neapolitan pizza, create your own waffles and amazing sides. Furthermore, they’re still giving back to the community.

“We sell pizza but I’m trying to build a little community around it so I try and shop locally where I can and we still try and donate to charity where possible,” Matt said.

“The people of Lincoln and the people who follow us have been really on board with it and they’re really supportive and they buy into the fact that we are a family owned business.”

The businesses future plans include more menu expansion and Matt shared there is student discount coming in the future.
