Work to transform the Duke of Wellington on Broadgate is officially underway.
Optima Graphic Design Consultants, a Lincoln based business, bought the building from Lincolnshire Co-Op two months ago and plan to use it to create offices for their firm.
The iconic Lincoln pub, which once hosted bands such as Pulp and The Killers, has been abandoned since 2011 and was once scheduled to be demolished.
It’s popularity was truly thriving during the 1980s when it hosted a range of live music, pools and darts teams in its upstairs club.
However, it has faced stiff competition from other pubs in Lincoln over the years leading to its decline and eventual closure.
Simon Shaw, managing director for Optima, submitted the plans for the new offices, which were approved by the City of Lincoln Council in August.
Work on the building will include repairing brickwork, windows and doors. They will also be re-using old pub signs, turning them into Optima branded signs.
The original bar will be transformed into a reception desk while virtual reality suites and meeting rooms are also being created.
Renovation is expected to be completed in February 2019.
