Lincoln City legends to play again for a great cause

The game is played in Peter Burr’s memory, a fan who died from a heart attack 2 years ago.

Legends of the pitch will be putting their boots on again in honour of a supporter who died from a heart attack.

The British Heart Foundation has organised a charity match between a Lincoln City legends side and a team for the BHF.

Former players such as Scott Kerr, Simon Yeo, Mark Howe, Danny Howe, Paul Miller, Dean West and Gavin Gordon are some of the names confirmed for the event.

The game was set up by Gary Burr in honour of his Dad who died two years ago.

The event is called the Peter Burr Memorial Cup in his name.

Event organiser Gary Burr spoke about the event: “I am expecting at least 200 supporters through to watch the match.”

“It’s a great chance to watch many ex Lincoln City players and raise some money for a worthwhile charity.”

“On the night there will be a raffle with 25 great prizes – a canteen is open serving food and refreshments.”

He added: “It’s great that many ex Lincoln City players are playing in the match, I’m a season ticket holder so it’s great to play against many players that I have admired over the years.”

The event last year raised over £2000 for charity.

Gary Burr said he’s hoping they raise even more this year: “It went very well and hopefully it will be even better this year.”

Andy Pearson is the referee for the game and he spoke about how important the event is to him: “I lost my dad to a heart attack in 1988 when I was only 20 so it’s a cause very close to my heart .”

He added: “Refereeing former players I have paid to watch will be interesting, I know a few players personally and expect a few tackles from some players – they know who they are!”

“It will be a bit of fun but you know what former sportsmen are like and they will hate to lose.”

The event will kick off at 7.30 pm on Friday March 1 at Lincoln United’s ground Ashby Avenue and entry to the game will cost £2 per adults and under 16s are free of charge.

A just giving fundraiser was also set up to raise money for the event at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/gary-burr4
