Matthew Jacobs pleaded guilty at Lincoln Crown Court to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, driving a motor vehicle while over the prescribed limit and failing to stop at the scene of collision.

Jacobs was driving southbound on the A46 Lincoln bypass after drinking at a work Christmas party when he collided with a stationary car parked in a lay-by, killing Alex Ross and Sian Chambers who were asleep in the back.

Detective Sergeant Alison Bowley, of the Serious Collision Investigation unit, said: “No sentence could ever reflect the tragic loss and pain caused by the actions of Matthew Jacobs.

“I hope that this is a reminder for anyone who drives a vehicle when they have consumed alcohol to stop, think and find a safe means to travel home.”
