Lincoln Fun Fair returns

After its cancelation in September, the bi-annual party rebounds as the first mass event for the city

To the sound of vibrating dub techno and screaming children, Lincoln’s bi-annual Fun Fair returned to the South Common this week — running from May 14 to May 22.

The City of Lincoln Council shutdown the fair in September due to an uptick in COVID-19 cases at the time. With ease of lockdown restrictions and COVID-19 compliant measures in place, families and friends ‘stepped right up’ for week of funhouses, waltzers and plastic prizes.

“My favorite thing is going on the waltzers and realizing that my soon-to-be-husband screams like a little girl,” said Fun Fair first-timer Harriet Miller, 28, after winning big at the Hook A Duck booth with her daughter.

A gang of girls, Emily Price, 14, Charlotte Jones, 16, Tia Ellwood, 16 and Evie Marrow, 14, spent their day hitting “pretty much” all the rides. Collectively they singled out the ‘Fast Track’ dodgems as the frontrunner.

Well, second to the doughnuts.

“We’re only doing one more [ride],” said Price. “We’re starting to feel sick.”

Entry is £1. Free parking on site.

The site opens at 6 p.m. on weekdays and 2 p.m. on Saturday, the fair’s final day.
