Richard Cox, who studied for a BA in journalism, was given the runner-up prize in the Broadcast Journalism Training Council’s (BJTC) award for long form films at the BBC’s White City in London.
The award is the second for the Lincoln School of Journalism in two years, the last one being recognition for ‘Innovative Teaching’ at last years awards.
His ten minute film was shot, edited, scripted and produced as part of his final year at University. ‘Crossing the Divide’, a story about how the Humber Bridge was in danger of destroying communities either side of the river, impressed BJTC secretary Jim Latham, who himself reported on the building of the bridge as a former News Editor of BBC Humberside.
On receiving his award, Cox said: “I was shocked and surprised because it was a year of hard work. It was a real testament to the tutors and my team mates – and I’m collecting the award on their behalf as well.”
Cox is now an editor’s assistant with an independent production company in Bristol which makes high profile films for Britain’s main television channels.
