Lincoln’s Makers’ Market has been saved for another year by two local craftswomen.

The market was previously run by Lincoln BIG  but was taken over by Leah Goldberg and Alison Martin at the end of last year.

Leah Goldberg said: “If we hadn’t taken it on it would have folded and that wold have been a huge shame.”

The first market of the year was on Saturday and will be held on the first Saturday of every month. Craftsmen and women from Lincolnshire and the surrounding area gathered in Castle Hill in uphill Lincoln to showcase their products.

Leah said the market was “as busy as it ever is” despite the weather being on the blustery side.

There is space for up to 42 stalls selling everything from handmade jewellery to handbags to wood art. Everything sold has to be handmade for the crafts-person to have a stall.

Former teacher Caroline Bolton, now makes handmade handbags and scarves for her business Coo Coo C’est Moi.

The Rotherham- based craftswomen said: “With my stuff especially, people need to see it, feel it, gauge the size of it and it’s much better to be able to do it in person rather than looking at a picture online. This way you can see what it’s like and talk to the person who made it and see the inspiration behind it.”

Leah Goldberg, organiser and owner of Dancing Hare Pottery said: “As a self employed artist or crafts-person, you can get very isolated and it’s one thing to love making what you make but there has to be an end result and you can only get feedback if you’re in the public eye and talking to customers.”
