Lincoln residents urged to register for evacuation texts following gas leak

Evacuated: A police officer helps members of the public at the scene of the gas leak.

Lincoln residents are being encouraged to sign up for free evacuation texts after Friday’s gas leak that effected thousands in the city.

The city was brought to a standstill on Friday afternoon, as nearby homes and businesses were evacuated and a 600m cordon enforced by Lincolnshire Police, after a digger working on the East West Link road site punctured a gas main.

The City of Lincoln Council are now advising those that live and work in Lincoln to register for free emergency texts alerts.

The city centre area has been divided into 27 ‘zones’ to make it easier to help people in the event of an emergency. If an evacuation is required in their zone, they will be notified by text.

Anyone with a mobile phone can register for the free service by submitting their name, address and mobile phone number to: evacuation@lincoln.gov.uk
