Since December, the people of Lincoln have known that American fast food chain Taco Bell would be arrive on their doorsteps. Finally, the plans have been approved.
The restaurant and drive-thru will be situated on Nettleham Road on the site of the previous Pizza Hut. Concerns were raised by residents about noise pollution to which the company have “gone beyond what is considered necessary.” Not only did they add the one acoustic fence required of them, but additional acoustic fencing will be fitted around the site.
Naomi Tweddle is the Chair of the Planning Committee, she says: “It’s helpful when organisations co-operate because as a city we want investment, and we’re an historic city. It’s important that we retain the uniqueness of Lincoln but at the same time we want the city to thrive and economic development is important in that.”
Concerns were also raised by Lincoln City Council’s Planning Committee about the width of the new drive-thru lane and its approach onto a main road. This concern needs to be approved by both the City Council and the Highway Authority, but that didn’t stop the City Council from approving the plans by a landslide.
Taco Bell has been very popular in the USA and returned to the UK in 2018 after a 20-year departure. Since then, a whole new generation of foodies can enjoy the Mexican inspired menu up and down the country. Now, Lincolnites will be able to join in the fun.
Taco Bell is expected to open in Summer 2021.
