Lincoln’s pride as RAF is given freedom of the city

Lincoln Cathedral

Lincoln Cathedral is one of the many attractions which will open to the public for free.

Lincoln saw swarming crowds as RAF Scampton and RAF Waddington were awarded the Freedom of the City today, an ancient tradition allowing the military to march through the city centre.

It is the first time the two squadrons have marched through the city together, and MP Karl McCartney, alongside members of Lincolnshire County Council and the City of Lincoln Council all stood to witness the parade alongside hundreds of proud Lincolnians.

RAF Corporal Paul Armstrong spoke to our reporter Rachael Lowes, and explained what the celebrations involved.
