£40,000 appeal to make sure audiences are sitting comfortably

North Hykeham's Terry O'Toole Theatre launches fundraising effort to pay for new seats.

Lincolnshire’s Terry O’Toole Theatre has launched a £40,000 charity appeal for 200 new seats after major renovations left the venue without the cash to pay for them.

The community theatre, which is attached to the One NK building on Moor Lane, has been closed for six months for major renovations to its rigging equipment.

The renovations cost around £50,000 and mean the theatre has no budget for other necessary improvements.

An appeal to raise the money to pay for new seats has been launched as the fireproof seat covers are coming to the end of their useful life, according to the team that runs the theatre.

Alison Duncombe, theatre development officer at the Terry O’Toole Theatre, said: “We want to make sure the theatre is at its best for when we open for our new season.

“We thought a community theatre like this was really important in this area and we have got a great response since we opened 18 years ago.”

The new seats will cost between £37,000 and £40,000, money the theatre is hoping to raise through donations from its regular audience when they buy tickets.

The theatre,  is set to re-open at the end of March. More information about the venue, and the events it has, can be found at http://terryotooletheatre.org.uk/.

The Terry O’Toole theatre is a member of Lincolnshire One Venues, a collective of 9 arts venues across the county.
