If the exit poll is correct, it shows that likes and shares on social media do not mean votes. Users on Facebook and Twitter are more likely to be young, left and pro-EU.

Conservative voters are less likely to be active on these social media platforms.

Unlike the 2017 general elections, when pro-labour websites spread across online platforms, Facebook’s algorithm’s have made it harder for these sights to reach massive numbers of people.

So it’s important to remember that social media users don’t represent the UK as a whole.
