Students are living amongst their own filth due to a lack of appropriate waste disposal at their houses.
LSJ news has found that some students don’t have bins big enough to hold their rubbish until bin collections take it away fortnightly. It may be that bins provided by the council are enough for a family of three, but student house can have up to five residents, meaning that the bins overflow and turn their living space into a dumping ground.
Jonny Evans, a student whose garden is filled with rotting food and empty bottles and tins, has even told the council that he will pay to have the garden cleared.
“In a student situation, i feel as though we’re not receiving enough help. An extra bin would go a long way.
“we’ve got so many bags here. The first step is we need to get rid of these first. We can’t fit our two weeks worth of rubbish in one bin, it’s just not good enough.”
“I know that it’s going to be very difficult for the council to bring out an extra collection service every week,that’s probably a bit too demanding. But providng an extra bin seems like a simple solution to a growing problem”.
