LSJ TV: Radio station hosts first blind presenter

An aspiring radio presenter has fulfilled a life-long dream by finally hosting his own radio show.

Edward Bates produced and put together a 30 minute show with the help of Siren FM Manager, Andrew David.

This is made all the more remarkable due to the fact that Edward is completely blind.

Edward has never seen a thing since birth due to a rare sight condition called Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis.

However, despite his disability, Edward has always wanted to work in the broadcast industry and says that radio is a key part of his life:

“On the radio, there’s obviously so many sighted people listening to it at the same time, that you kind of feel part of it,” he said. “It’s a really accessible way for me to learn and find out about the world.”

Siren FM Manager, Andrew David, was amazed at how well Edward adapted to unfamiliar surroundings:

“Edward came in and took to it like a fish to water,” he said. “He’s got a tremendous sense of get up and go – it was a real delight working with him.”
