LSJ TV: Lincoln marches for workers’ freedom

Hundreds of Lincoln’s workers took to the streets as part of what has been called the largest industrial action for a generation. Members of dozens of different public sector trade unions marched together to demonstrate against the government’s proposed changes to pension schemes.

Protesters from all walks of life joined together shouting slogans such as ‘No if’s, no buts, no public sector cuts’ while children, many missing school as a result of the national strike, carried signs emblazoned with ‘Save the Pensions’.

As the march drew to a close, many protesters were turned away from the full-to-capacity Drill Hall as union representatives encouraged the action and condemned the government.

One representative Nick Parker made an impassioned speech, calling for changes to be made by government and urging union members to participate in more industrial action: “We need to go away and find an alternative, for the millions not the millionaires”.
