Lincoln’s Glory Hole riverside walkway has been brightened up with a vibrant mural. The paintings depict some of Lincoln’s iconic landmarks like the cathedral and castle.
The Glory Hole is off the High Street in the city centre and located both sides of Stokes High Bridge Cafe. The bridge itself happens to be the oldest in England, built around 1160, and crosses the River Witham.
This historical spot has been spruced up courtesy of University of Lincoln lecturer Chris Matthews who came up with the idea. Students Alice Thorpe from Doncaster and Lene Utklev Gaupen from Norway, created the designs, while local artist Andrew Bailie completed the project.
Andrew said: “I see so much potential for the city in regards to the arts scene and industry. Any project that brightens and develops certain tired areas whilst also fostering new creative partnerships is a brilliant investment in our lovely Lincoln.
“It was also a chance to celebrate some of our well known landmarks which is great.”
