Lincoln Castle’s monthly Dog Friendly Weekends will be taking place on the weekend of
March 18-19 following a successful first outing in April 2021.

Caroline Ward, Visitor Experience Manager at Lincoln Castle, said: “The dog friendly weekends have been very popular since the beginning. We always knew there was a market, and the owners are very appreciative that they have something they can do with their pets in the weekend.”

The Castle is able to open up during the doggy weekend, but the vaults remain out of bounds due to the potential damage the moisture could do to the historic manuscripts held within. “We aren’t even allowed to mop the floor!”, Caroline added.

The monthly dog friendly weekends are growing in popularity, with February 18 welcoming 120 dogs, and February 20 hosting 213.

This is a considerable increase compared to the welcome weekend last June, hosting only 63 on the Saturday and 95 on the Sunday.

Caroline continued: “Unfortunately we can’t have the castle open to dogs all the time. We don’t always have the resources to accommodate dogs, and to ensure someone is there to clean up after them.

“Also we need to consider the potential interruption to court traffic. We’re trying to have a balance between those that do love it, and those that don’t.

“For now, there are no plans to extend beyond once a month but there will always be treats and dog biscuits in the café.”
