More affordable housing and charges on public toilets have been two of the top suggestions for the Lincoln City Council’s new budget plans.
That’s according to results gathered on their new interactive website, YouChoose.com.
The website, launched a month ago, allows members of the public to make suggestions on how much money should be spent on various aspects of the Council’s budget.
Chris Dunbar, Communication manager at the City Council explained the main aim of the website:
“The main aim is to give the public, residents, students, everyone who works or lives in Lincoln, the opportunity to help [the City Council] meet the challenge of setting the budget for the next year.”
Members of the public can complete the online interactive survey by setting the position of various sliders. As they do this, the impact of their decisions is automatically reflected in terms of the total of saving and the council tax.
The City Council are looking for budget suggestions that save them £3million but at the same time avoid an increase in council tax. Some of the popular ideas for bringing in more money include charging 20p for public toilets.
It has been described as the Council’s most innovative and detailed budget consultation.
So far nearly 300 people have completed the survey and the City Council have also received 100 paper copies.
