Roadworks Causing Delays in Grimsby and Cleethorpes

Recent heavy traffic in Grimsby and Cleethorpes is being blamed on the mass of roadworks on the main throroughfares of the adjacent towns.

A spokesperson for the North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) says: “A lot of works aren’t ours, but we do have junction improvements ongoing at the hospital.”

NELC added that their highways agency, ENGIE, was responsible for the works on the busy Bradley Road and Clee Road areas: “They [ENGIE] grant the licenses for works to be undertaken on the highway.”

“The matter of rate of progress or works on site by a utility contractor, is not something we have any jurisdiction over.”

Cleethorpes resident, Eileen Robertson said: “It’s making the town difficult to get through. If I get the bus into town, it takes a whole lot longer because of all the road works being done at the same time.”

The works at the hospital are set to continue for many weeks, with the official timeline stating 14 weeks.

Clee Road currently has works ongoing at the junction between the former Matthew Humberstone school and Clee Crescent.
