The day, founded in 1984, aims to help those in the UK who are wishing to quit smoking.

According to the NHS, quitting smoking helps you breathe more easily, gives you more energy, and feel less stressed as well as other ongoing health benefits.

The office for national statistics say 15.1% of people aged 18 and above smoke in the UK.

This year’s National No Smoking Day was supported by health organisations cross England. The benefits of giving up the habit were advertised to users and directions to organisations that could help provided as well.

NHS England offer a number of support mechanisms for people looking to quit. Their tips include using ‘stop smoking aids’ such as e-cigarettes and more unusual remedies such as hypnotherapy.
