Snow continues to cause disruption in Lincoln

Heavy snowfall is continuing to cause major disruption in Lincoln.

While the main roads are coping better than yesterday when the snow was at it’s worst, side roads are still dangerous with Lincolnshire Police urging people not to travel unless they have to.

John Siddle from Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership said: “People must make sure that if they travel they have the essential things with them like a large warm coat to keep warm if they do break down.”

“A fully charged phone, a high-visibility jacket in case they breakdown at night and if they do have to abandon their car leave a note in it saying who they are and how they can be contacted.”

A number of motorists have been stranded in their vehicles on both main roads and country roads around the county over the last couple of days due to the heavy snowfall and large snow drifts.

The University of Lincoln and Bishop Grosseteste University are both closed today, as are most schools in the city. Many children have taken to the parks and slopes in Lincoln with their sledges in order to make the most of their day off.
