A proposal for uncapped tuition fees mean students in England could be paying up to £12, 000 a year for their degree.
Lord Browne’s review calls for the £3, 290 cap to be got rid of and instead, universities can set their own fees. He says this is needed because each university is different and therefore needs different amounts of money to retain their status.
The new concept means students will be left in masses of debt after they graduate. However, Browne states they would only have to pay it back when their earnings reach £21, 000 and above. There are concerns that if the government back this proposal, more people will be put off going to university, especially those from poorer backgrounds.
