Living with cancer is hard enough for any sufferer, but when you have a five-year-old daughter, a young girl worried about whether her mum will survive another year, it’s unimaginable.
Sarah, a 43-year-old mother from Spalding, Lincolnshire, was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2014, and she was told on her daughter’s fifth birthday.
Over the next three years Sarah underwent a variety of treatments, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, as well as a number of operations on her breast.
All that time Sarah’s daughter Lylia, now eight years old, was having to cope with her mum going in and out of hospital, not knowing how much longer she had left with her.
Cancer numbers are constantly rising, and by 2020 almost half of the population will develop the disease at some point in their lives. Sarah is only one of around 2.5 million people currently living with cancer in the UK.
