The Be Phone Smart campaign

You can use your mobile phone if you’re safely parked.

The RAC is running a national campaign that encourages drivers to ‘Be Phone Smart’.

According to the RAC report on motoring, 23% of people have admitted to making a phone call whilst driving within the last twelve months.

Similarly, 39% of people think that it is okay to check their social media when they’re stuck in traffic.

The Be Phone Smart campaign aims to remind the public of the laws that are currently in place in the UK, with regards to mobile phone usage.

Between 2012 and 2016, 2210 crashes were caused by drivers using a mobile phone – the RAC, in partnership with many other road safety organisations, hope to reduce this number.

People are getting involved with the campaign on Twitter by using the hash tag #BePhoneSmart, where they can make a promise to stop using their handheld device at the wheel.
