‘The Young Victoria’ nominated for Oscar

A film shot at Lincoln Cathedral is up for the Best Art Direction award at this year’s Oscars.

The Young Victoria has also been nominated for awards in the categories of Best Makeup and Best Costume Design.

Lincoln Cathedral served in the film as the setting for Westminster Abbey for Queen Victoria’s Coronation. The Young Victoria faces stiff competition from sci-fi film Avatar in the category, which centres on blue creatures and has been nominated for nine awards. The Hurt Locker is also nominated for the same number of awards, and is therefore Avatar’s biggest rival.

Penny Baker is the Chief Executive of Visit Lincolnshire. She says that the film’s nomination is positive for Lincoln, too.

“It is great news for Lincolnshire, as the economy can really benefit hugely from a successful film over the medium and long term,” she says.

Art direction takes into account the visual presentation and the display of a film.

Emily Blunt stars as the Queen; the film focuses on her early reign and her budding romance with Prince Albert.

The Oscars (officially known as the Academy Awards) will take place this year on the 7th March at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. It is the 82nd ceremony and will be hosted by Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.
