The Government’s decision to place Lincolnshire into Tier 3 has forced the Donna Nook seal beach to stay closed due to social distancing concerns.
Lincolnshire moved into Tier 3 after the latest lockdown ended on December 2. Alongside Donna Nook, Skegness Natureland Seal Sanctuary has also been hit by this decision and has had to shut all its indoor exhibits.
Situated on the Lincolnshire coast, Donna Nook is one of Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust’s most popular locations and usually attracts over 60,000 visitors per year during pupping season, which takes place from late October to January.
However, the Trust issued a statement on their website informing visitors that the site will remain closed for the rest of this season.
Rachel Shaw, Senior Communications Officer, said: “We are a charity and like many others, we’ve been suffering during this period.
“For people who love to see the seals but aren’t able to this year, if they’d like to make a donation it helps to ensure that we’re able to continue looking after places like Donna Nook.”
These latest coronavirus restrictions mean Skegness Natureland Seal Sanctuary has had to amend opening times and prices.
Natureland, which rehabilitates orphaned and injured seals, issued this statement via Facebook:
Matthew Yeadon, the Sanctuary’s director, explained the financial impact the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns have had.
